What To Expect

The following is a summary of what you and your family can expect from our team at GD Orthodontics. From your first phone call to our practice, to the completion of your treatment, we strive to maintain the highest standards of excellence and professionalism.

When you first call our office, one of our friendly office staff members will assist you in making a new patient consultation appointment for you or your child's first visit. We will also begin gathering important information necessary for Dr. Deshpande to prepare for your appointment, and will answer any questions you may have.

At the new patient consultation, we will review your Medical History, Dental History, and Practice Privacy Consent form. Thereafter, a thorough orthodontic examination will be completed by our team, and the preliminary findings will be discussed with you at that time. Additional diagnostic records may be recommended to allow Dr. Deshpande to complete your diagnosis and formulate the appropriate treatment options.

We will explain and demonstrate your treatment options, as well as any appliances that are recommended for your orthodontic care.

In the vast majority of consultations, we will also be able to provide an accurate fee for the recommended orthodontic treatmentt.

Your appointments will be scheduled at regular intervals throughout your orthodontic treatment. The frequency of your appointments will depend on the stage of treatment, type of appliances, and treatment progress.

Once your orthodontic treatment is complete, you will be fitted with appliances and/or retainers to retain your beautiful new smile. Additional information will be reviewed so that you can enjoy your spectacular smile as much as possible.

Orthodontic Emergencies

True orthodontic emergencies are rare, but when they do occur we are available to you. As a general rule, you should call the office when you experience severe pain or when you have a painful appliance problem that you can't take care of yourself. We'll be able to schedule an appointment to resolve the problem.

You might be surprised to learn that you may be able to temporarily solve many problems yourself until you schedule an appointment with our office. When working with your appliances, you need to know the names of the parts of your appliances so you are able to identify what part is broken or out of place. After alleviating your discomfort, it is very important that you still call our office as soon as possible to schedule a time to repair the problem. Allowing your appliance to remain damaged for an extended period of time may result in disruptions in your treatment plan.

If the emergency involves trauma to the teeth, contact us, your general dentist, and oral surgeon or go to the emergency room of your nearest hospital.

Care Of Braces

If you want to wear your braces for the shortest treatment time possible, you should take care of them. Taking care of your braces doesn't just benefit your teeth, it will cut the cost down.

Here are brief instructions to take care of your braces:

1) Make appointments with our orthodontist as recommended. Delaying your appointments can extend your treatment and also makes it more likely that you may lose a bracket or have a loose wire.
2) Brush and floss after every meal. Use a floss threader to get between the braces and a proper brush to clear out any food particles.
3) Clean removable appliances or sports mouthguards with baking soda and warm water. Use an old toothbrush to brush them gently with the baking soda and set them on a paper towel to dry. Keeping your appliances clean ensures that no additional bacteria gets in your mouth and on your braces.
4) Contact our office as soon as a bracket pops off. If you leave the bracket off for even a day, it can damage other parts of your braces and set your treatment back considerably.
